A Mysterious Country—Israel

 

This is a piece of land with mystery where there are living a mysterious people. They finally return to their native land after the homeless and miserable life for two thousand years and rebuild their homestead--the country of Israel. For above reason, war and peace, modern and tradition, capitalism and "mess" which are absolutely antitheses still exist in this exclusive Judah country in the world.

 

Driving towards southeast about twenty-four kilometers from the City of Jerusalem, you can get to the lowest place of the world - the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is seated among Israel, Jordan and Palestine. It is about eighty-six kilometers long from south to north. Its deepest point is about 400 meters below the sea level.

 

Tel Aviv is one of the most important cities in Israel. In the fist place, most of the erectors of the city are Judah refugees who are from the Middle or East Europe. They bring the developed culture with them. Tel Aviv is world famous for its classical music of high level. Almost in every week, high level opera, classical concert, ballet and modern dance are performed in the city. In the middle ten days of August of every year, the art festival of "Jaffa night" which including music, opera, dance and art would last four days. Streets as the natural background, the travelers who are out of admiration wander about inside. They become part of the art by accident.

 

In every October of the year, the city would hold a big and crazy street party called "Lovede" whose field is up to three point eight kilometers long. In that day, the policemen would block out all the streets which the party people would go through for a while in order to make the activity go on wheels.

 

The City of Jerusalem which has an old part and a new part has been the capital of Israel from the year of 1950. From the view of culture and history, the old part belongs to the modern Israel while the old part belongs to the religious Israel. Walking in the City of Jerusalem, you can feel the history for the most. A good many buildings which can date back to a few centuries ago and people's dress and action fashion make people doubt whether time stops in this place.
